About Me

Welcome to Caterpillar Music Edinburgh and the Lothians.

My name is Alison Sneddon and I run Caterpillar Music Classes throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. Caterpillar Music has been running now since 2009 so we are nearly 10 years old!

A little bit about me I am Married to Graham and we have three children, Hannah 21 years, Aaron 18 years and Aimee 11. I came across Caterpillar Music when I was looking to go back to work part-time after having Aimee. I have had a lot of experience working with children in nursery's, creches, running rainbows and brownies and also working with children with special needs. I also have a real passion for singing and music and I have played the piano since I was younger, I thought how wonderful it would be to combine working with children with doing singing and music and thats where Caterpillar Music fitted the bill.
Although is is extremely busy running your own business it is so rewarding teaching the classes and meeting new people and watching the little ones enjoy the classes and grow in confidence every week.

Our Classes: We have several parent/child classes and nursery sessions running and with lots of exciting weekly themes and lots of props to accompany them you will enjoy fun and relaxed classes which enhance learning, language development and confidence and help childen and adults make friends in a creative environment.

I think my favourite theme for classes has to be the circus as I love using all the clown hats and puppets and props, I love all the action songs but my favourite has to be the Hokey Cokey that we do at the end of every parent/child class!

Class Leaders play a very important part as I always feel there is no I in team, they help me deliver classes and also come up with new ideas. We are lucky to have the following Part-time class leaders:

Elaine Gnarra:
My name is Elaine and I am a mum to a 5 year old little girl. I have been a part time class leader for Caterpillar Music for over 2 years now.
I like being a class leader as it brings my two passions music and working with children together. I enjoy exploring different themes each week with the children and making each class enjoyable, exciting and engaging.

My favourite theme is transport and creepy crawlies and my favourite song has to be Big Fish Little Fish!!!! or the ugly bug ball

Alison Downie:
My name is Alison and I have 1 daughter, I was a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist for 22 years and have been with Caterpillar Music now for 1 year.

I really enjoy running classes because each class is different and no day is ever boring! also I love the look on the children faces when you go in to do a class as they are so excited and happy for class.

So far my favourite theme has been Dinosaurs and my favourite song is shake my sillies!

Gemma Gough:
Hi, I’m Gemma and I’ve worked at Caterpillar Music for a year and a half. I have two children, aged 10 and 7 and they keep me busy when I’m not at work.

I love running the classes - the children are so engaged with the props and instruments and it’s lovely to see. I especially love it when I see children coming out of their shell and gaining the confidence to come and stand at the front or give an answer during circle time.

My favourite theme is Jungle/Safari and my favourite song is Never Smile at a Crocodile although Shake My Sillies is a very close second!

Lorna Gardner:
My name is Lorna and I started with Caterpillar Music in January 2018, I am qualified with a BA in Music during which time I volunteered in many different childcare settings. I went on to qualify with an HNC in Early Education and have worked in childcare for 6 years.

I met my husband at university and we have an 18 month daughter who loves attending her Caterpillar Music class.

I understand the importance of music to a childs development including speech, coordination and confidence and love to see children learning while enjoying music.

I have really enjoyed the Dinosaur theme but I think my favouite song would be catch a falling star!

Kayleigh Wishart:
My name is Kayleigh I am 21 years old, graduated in 2017 with a BA Hons in dance artistry. I have just started with Caterpillar Music a few weeks ago.

I have always had a love of working with children and have taught dancing to young children from 16 years old and ever since I knew I wanted to work with children. I came across caterpillar music when looking for a part time job, I love working with caterpillar music as each day is different from the last, And I love the idea of children developing new skills through active learning such as music.

I think my favourite theme has to be up and down as I enjoyed playing with a parachute. My favourite song has to be miss polly had a dolly.

Well as you will see from above we have a team of dedicated class leaders who are very passionate about their classes.

What do we do at Caterpillar Music Classes......

Caterpillar Music classes are based around different weekly themes each session is fun, relaxed and full of surprises. We use amazing puppets and props which keep the children engrossed and with our fantastic instruments everyone loves our band. We also do active action songs where everyone no matter how small joins in and has lots of fun.

Caterpillar music sessions are not only educational but help children gain confidence, develop language and listening skills. The children bond with the other children in the group and all our classes involve adult participation. It has been shown children benefit more from activities in which their parents or carers interact with them, it also helps develop social skills and confidence as children love learning, playing together and making new friends. Our classes are suitable from birth to 5 years old and all our equipment is suitable for the age range.

Please contact me by phone or email and come along and experience Caterpillar Music for you and your little one. Book your FREE trial now. You do not need to wait until the start of a new term we have new customers joining every week.

THANK YOU

Blackhall Nursery’s Fancy Dress Fundraising Event

We are writing to say a big thank you to Alison and Elaine for the above event. It really made a difference - we are very grateful. We raised over £1200 (match funded) and the children had a wonderful time in the process.

Your generous contribution was acknowledged at the event and you will also receive a mention in our forthcoming newsletter which goes out to 56 parents and carers.

As a registered charity, Blackhall Nursery relies on fundraising for all purchases of new toys and equipment. This is made possible by the success of such events and the kind donations from businesses such as yourself.

Yours sincerely,

The fundraising team at Blackhall Nursery

Thank you for Amy's fantastic 2nd Birthday Party! (10/01/15)

I have dealt with Alison and Graham over the past few months, in arranging my daughter - Amy's - 2nd birthday party. Both very lovely, professional and a pleasure to deal with!
On the day, Simon and Alison were absolutely fantastic! They made the party fun, interactive and stress-free for all involved, and we had 24 children ranging in age from 1-4, along with special needs children. Having advised Alison prior to the party, about our nephew's learning difficulties, she went out of her way to engage him, which worked a treat! this has been the first party he has not only stayed at, but thoroughly enjoyed which has delighted us, as a family. I cannot recommend Alison and her team enough. My daughter and her brother (age 4.5) thoroughly enjoyed the day, which was tailored specifically to all her caterpillar music favourites (she attends classes at nursery). I have received many positive comments from parents who attended also, who were particularly impressed by the way in which Alison and Simon kept all the children's attention throughout and remembered and used their childs name.
We have been so impressed by the whole experience, we have already booked Caterpillar Music to do our son - Adam's - party in June.
Thanks again to Alison and her team for their fantastic work!!

Caterpillar Music Birthday Party

Alison came to do our son’s 2nd birthday party earlier this year, and WOW! She had everybody singing and playing along with the musical instruments which were a big hit with everybody – including the adults! It was brilliant to see a group of 2 year olds so engaged in the activities and songs. Alison was so brilliant and so enthusiastic and made sure everyone felt part of the party. I would highly recommend Alison and the caterpillar music parties and we cannot wait till next year to book again! Thank you for a brilliant experience.
