What experience do I need?

You need to have experience with babies or children as a parent/relative or through work experience – we provide our own comprehensive training so other qualifications are not always necessary. The children at our classes are very young, so it is a very simple and enjoyable class to run.

You will also need to complete a CRB check – we can apply for this following your training.

What does training include?

Your training day covers every aspect of managing your own business and how to deliver really amazing classes.

Training includes advertising and marketing, customer care, legal requirements, paperwork, following our lesson plans, ideas for classes, songs, music, use of puppets and stories, choosing the right venues and much more – everything you need to get started.

Our lesson plans cover every class in detail and are very easy to follow.

Where does training take place?

We currently offer training in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Our training days normally take place on a Saturday.

What does it cost?

To join us, you need to attend a Training Day (this costs £295*).

Ongoing fees payable are a low Monthly Fee of £35 and a fee of 83p* per child at each class.

How do I launch my business and find customers?

We give you full support on how to organise everything for the opening of your classes and advice on local marketing and advertising to attract your customers. Shared advertising keeps running costs low and provides a stronger advertising campaign for everyone. Our National Advertising features the BBC Cbeebies presenters Andyand Sid, who are very well liked by our target audience.

Do I need an office? Do I need a car?

Paperwork can easily be run from home and customer bookings are made in advance by email and telephone. Classes are held at church halls/leisure clubs etc. The equipment for your classes can sometimes be stored at your venues, therefore a car is not essential.

Is this a Franchise?

No, this is not a Franchise, so there are no expensive upfront fees to pay. You will be a self employed Class Leader, with an exclusive territory of your own in which to run classes. You will sign a simple Licence agreement with us.

How much can I earn?

Example:

Class price per child is £5.95 (you are able to set your own class prices)

83p per child payable to Caterpillar Music*

You keep the remainder (after paying your running costs - venue hire etc).

A class of 20 children would provide an income of around £100 for a 40 minute class.

You might choose to run 1, 2 or 3 classes during a morning at one location and you can also offer classes in the afternoon and on Saturdays.

The figures above should not be seen as a guarantee of income, as income varies according to the time spent developing the business, local demographics and other factors.

Our class leaders need energy and enthusiasm and being self employed is hard work so you will need to be focused and motivated to build successful classes. We do have many classes with 20 children attending and waiting lists.

Why join the Caterpillar Music Network?

We are proud to have been operating in the UK since 2001 at over 100 locations. Caterpillar Music is a registered trademark, and is a premium brand with a strong reputation and thousands of customers attending classes every week.

How much will equipment cost?

We offer various equipment packages which you can purchase at a special discounted rate when attending training with us, these start from only £350*

Our £350 equipment starter package includes a fantastic selection of CDs, puppets and instruments suitable for babies and young children.

What size area/territory will I be given?

You will be given an exclusive area in which to run classes, no-one else will be able to offer Caterpillar Music classes (0-4yrs) there.

An average area will be large enough to develop and open around 6 classes per week, although you can choose to open more. There is also an opportunity to add additional locations by purchasing additional area licenses.

What can I do if my area is not available?

You can look at other locations which are within travelling distance for you, as you do not need to live within the area you choose to operate classes. You can also register your interest with us for areas that are not currently available so that we can let you know if those areas ever do become available.
